Had the PRS Silver Sky for a few days now. Leaving aside the Marmite aesthetics it's a great sounding and playing guitar. Bridge pickup I'm actually not 100% sure of, though I've heard demos that sound really good so I'm sure it's worth persisting with. Usual PRS build-quality / tuning stability. Rosewood is as dark as ebony and beautifully smooth.

Tiny niggles include it being difficult to thread strings through the trem block. The end of the hole might usefully have a chamfer to better guide the string. The volume pot is all but off by the time it's at five. Don't understand the reason for such a steep taper. Trem arm needed a trip to the vice as the 90 degree bend left it too close to the body (a personal thing and an easy fix). Output jack could have a more positive 'click' into position. Neck carve wouldn't be my first choice but, again, that's a personal thing. It still plays really well so maybe that doesn't matter.

Main thing is that it sounds like the Strat in my head (bridge pickup maybe less so), and it plays like a PRS.

I like this demo.

He gets a huge range of tones including some cool Malmsteen type thing near the end. Not that you couldn't do that on loads of S-type guitars.

I've tried a few Silver Skys including a white one in the K Rd Rockshop, wonder if it's the same one. I really liked the neck shape, reminded me of the 63-64 era strats with that taper that gets thicker as you move away from the headstock. I also really liked the pickups, my mates SS has a really nice sounding bridge pickup. It's great you got one with a dark fingerboard.

I watched that. On this demo at least they're pretty much indistinguishable from each other IMHO.

Cool! It's got heritage! :-)

Glad it's your old one. I know you're choosy.

John plays with the tone rolled back quite often, have you tried that in the bridge Brian? Silly question probably

Seems important in the bridge. In the demo I posted the guy does some nice slide with one tone down and the other up. Sounds cool.
