Re: P90 Guitar Search
I've gone down this road and TBH, I don't think HB sized p90's come close to the real deal. Ballpark? yes, but to me they lack the attitude!sizzlingbadger wrote:I'm thinking I may just put some nice HB sized P90's in my SE first, that would be the cheapest thing to try first.
But, if you did want to experiment I've got some HD Z90's I got from stratmatt, stunning, stunning pickups but redundant at the moment as I don't have a HB routed guitar. They have their own thing going on and are so clear and ballsy all at the same time without those congested mids p90's are known for. Very hi fi, I guess. Hit me up if you are interested. Happy Sunday.

P90s are too wide, you'd need to route the bodycodedog wrote:I wonder if there's such a thing as adapter ring for p90s in humbucker routes.

You mean top to bottom, length? As opposed to left to right width?jeremyb wrote:P90s are too wide, you'd need to route the bodycodedog wrote:I wonder if there's such a thing as adapter ring for p90s in humbucker routes.

Width, the longer dimension of the pickupWellyBlues wrote:You mean top to bottom, length? As opposed to left to right width?jeremyb wrote:P90s are too wide, you'd need to route the bodycodedog wrote:I wonder if there's such a thing as adapter ring for p90s in humbucker routes.

Re: P90 Guitar Search
Had a jam this arvo and this thing was present. It appeared on my workbench before lockdown as a stripped bare carcass. I routed the cavities to take P90s and provided 2 from my parts box. The cream one is an Entwistle from Jansen. The black one is the original PRS from my SE ONE; supposedly a bridge pup. Bridge is a DiMarzio of some sort.
Anyway, it sounds great! It's got a hard, clear midrangey tone that always cuts through. Wouldn't change a thing. Another example of just how good a parts bin bodge up can be. Guitar was originally a 1970's Daion but the wood is the only original bit remaining.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: P90 Guitar Search
My only single coil guitar has HB sized P90s - BKP Manhattans.
I reckon they sound fantastic, but I don’t have any regular P90s to compare whether they completely nail that P90 snarl.

and dibs, even though I don't expect to spend that sort of cash on a guitar.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Re: P90 Guitar Search
As far as I can tell the regular and HB-sized P90's from BKP sound very similar. I have them in different guitars obviously but the basic characters are the same.sizzlingbadger wrote:I'm thinking I may just put some nice HB sized P90's in my SE first, that would be the cheapest thing to try first.
