I can’t stand trebly strings, so these are on all of my guitars now:

I found boomers really trebley, so haven't gone back to GHS, I find elixirs quite neutral, have you tried them Rog?

jeremyb wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 12:48 pm Is anyone running a hybrid set, like 9-46? I quite like the thicker low end from the usual 10-46s, but could do with a bit of an easier time now I'm trying to do more bending... lack of practice yeah... but...
I’m running 10-52 on everything. I tried some 9-48,s the other day on a Tele might my caveman hands squeezed them all out of tune and I overbent each note.

This gauge on a Gibson scale is great for my style.

Makes it easy I guess when buying....”if” the order ever arrives (stuck Japan like my Supro pedal).

Decided to finally install one of the Stringjoy wound 3rd sets I have in my strat today, normally run 10-46 elixirs, these are a balanced set with: .010 – .0135 – .018w – .026w – .036 – .048.

First impressions are they sound brighter than the elixirs so had to wind the treble back a smidge on the amp, but play nice, will see how they go after some more bedding in, the G is a little harder to bend than the .017 I had on there before but despite evidence to the contrary I'm not much of a bender.

Going to convert my Kramer to B standard baritone tuning on 25.5" scale ala Ariel Posen, will grab a set of D'Addario 13-62s tomorrow, looks like the tension will be pretty much identical to a set of 10s, I have 9s on there at the moment so will have to chuck the springs for 10s on to the Vega Trem.

They're really great strings, and a wound G on a strat feels right!

Interesting
I run 12s on my jag but I’ve intentionally sought out sets with an unwound G , it’s a bit like fencing wire tho
Might try a wound G at
What do you like about the wound G ?

My longer scale offsets (JM) ive always used 11-49 . I tried 11-52 but the output on the low end of those pickups is unbalanced and gets out of control especially playing surf

Recently entered the world of Gibson and with that scale length I do like 10s. 10-46 I think

I prefer the feel of wound strings, would go all wound if I could  but... it seems to be a warmer tone (i.e. less treble) with the wound G and people reckon they stay in tune better, but I'm tone deaf anyway

Outside of using the Hendrix gauges (.010 / .013 /.015 / .026 / .032 / .038) on my Strat, I usually stick to 9s on my Strat and 10s on my LP-style guitars.

I'm seeing your point; there are far more interesting guitars out there.

But Blackstratblues, just saying. :D
