Fender strat lockdown project

I picked up this guitar to have as a bit of a project over the next few weeks. It's my first fender so excited to see what the fuss is about. I've been prowling for a maple neck and 2 tone burst for a while.
Was hoping to give it a bit of a worn look, but this one came already roughed up!

It was listed as a Highway One but says it's an American Special on the body.
Serial number checks out but not sure how much of it is still authentic
Hoping to put together a bit of a bit of an all round rocker for taking to work.

Some sort of HSS format, with a zebra bridge pickup.

Anything I should be looking into?

Yeah, thought I'd done it right but nothing showed up! Scrambling now to see what I've done wrong :?

Hopefully this shows up although at pretty low resolution. The editor I was using to drop the file size didn't seem to be compatible

Aah, I see the problem - you used a gumboot instead of a banana to show the scale.

What hardware are you putting in?

I don't have anything to go in it yet. Not sure what sort of buying ability we'll have for the next month.
I'll probably try to keep an eye for some cheap stuff online to get started and go from there.

Suggestions?

Depends on what you’re after. What kind of ballpark tones are you looking for?

Looks like a nice one to spec out though, good score :-)

Thanks. The low resolution photo hides all the dings!

I'd be keen to try and stretch from heavier blues through to classic rock tones.

Found Obsidian Wire on the net and really like the look of one of theirs that means I could blend in the neck pickup.

Lots of Obsidian Wire fans around here. The owner is a forum member, toneloungematt. Fantastic NZ built products!

Yep, he's a super guy, and the products are awesome, I have his 4-way tele kit, and 7-way strat kit and they are just brilliant!

I've used this. The blender pot is a nice idea. On the bridge you can blend in the neck and vice-versa (from memory). And, yes, as others have said, he's a really nice guy to deal with.

Keep us posted on the project.

Yeah matts great to deal with, I just don't find the blending thing that useful. Must be my tin ears.

A tin a.r.s.e. would be better.
