Price Check on a 2002 Gibson SG Special

Post by dayl »

Hi guys,

I dont really know much about Gibsons and need to get an idea of what a fair sale price would be. I got this is a trade and am thinking about selling it off so I can get a decent semi hollow.

Its finished in Cherry Gloss and is in very good condition with minor wear and tear. Only mods is that the 490T/R have had the magnets swapped out with A5 Rough cast magnets to tighten and smooth them over. I'll be adding pickup covers to finish the look.

Try to refrain from lowballing me, knowing that a FS thread will show up over the next couple weeks

Thanks dudes

Pic is not mine but same model.

why bother? sounds like effort and cost on your part that won't effect the sale price / value.

Like expensive mags, while a small number of people might go yeah those make it look mean, the rest are wondering if its been fucked with or thrashed, and will try for a few hand shandy off. Better to keep it stock.

I would think $1000-1200 probably
Gibsons are going for a lot more than they used to, but seems like the Specials/Studios still lag quite far behind standards.

I'd go 800 to 1000. Been a few specials go for under 1k.

$900 would be the sweet spot.

Lack of binding, inlays, pickup covers and gig bag drive it down a bit.

Great guitars though!

Yeah $900-1000 sounds about right. Also like jimi mentioned, don't mess with the pickups if you're not gonna keep it.

Yeah bro, I just got the parts all ordered and ready to go before deciding that I really want a semi hollow for a change. Maybe I wont bother.

Yeah, but he hasn't proclaimed it yet...
well, he doesn't have to self proclaim it, but it would be good if he had a sort of ceremony where he sang 500 miles etc :)
