Power supply and pedal board recommendations

Post by robthemac »

I'm reaching the limit of what my OneSpot 9V PSU can handle. Not needing anything big or fancy, probably will max out at a couple of ODs, delay, a tuner and a two-pedal looper. All 9V. Need something to power them and potentially a board to sit them in.

The JOYO JP-02 has been recommended to me. Seems a bit of an overkill size-wise. Any other recommendations? Anyone happen to be selling?

What's your board setup currently? What you need really depends on how many pedals, current draw of said pedals, voltage requirements, isolation requirements for things like fuzz pedals or pedals in an effects loop and so forth :)

Also what's your budget?

Truetone cs7. It just works, is silent, powers anything, and easily available.

Currently only a RC-20 looper, Hotcake and OCD clone. Planning on getting a tuner and delay at some stage. They're all 9V. Budget is flexible, but prefer spending less money if possible. The JOYO is USD$60 I think.

+1 for the Truetone. Recommend you spend a bit more than you intend. I resisted aPS purchase for years. When I finally got a good one, I realised what an idiot I’d been.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Absolutely. My whole rig sounded better when I got mine up and running.

These days I use one of these: https://www.rockshop.co.nz/shop/rockboa ... oards.html

Kinda neat being battery powered and you can charge your phone or run usb powered stuff off it too :)

I'd also recommend the Truetone series. I've had a CS12 for the last 3 years and couldn't be happier with it.

Pretty universal acclaim for the Truetone, then.

So what about physical boards? Rockboard would be a start?

The rockboards are awesome, I've owned about 7 or 8 pedaltrains, 1 of the old gen rockboards (pedaltrain like) and more recently the new rockboard style and its a big step up, highly recommend!!

What about something like this?
http://www.trademe.co.nz/music-instrume ... 010953.htm
Only 5 outputs, but they are quite high mA, so you could double some up on your analog pedals. I know nothing about the brand (assume Chinese) but at lease it has a proper IEC plug. Lots of the cheaper one have the transformer on the plug with a 18v input, which i can't see how they could be isolated like that?
Nothing to see here.

Yeah I was initially considering something along those lines. Much cheaper. Consensus seems to be do it once and do it right though.

Good advice.
My current PS is a Cioks DC10. At the pricey end, but I bought it second hand. It's one of the few on the market with a 15v tap for Radial Tonebone pedals.
Nothing to see here.
