The date has been put back to 1 December 2019. And there's still some confusion, because the aim for smaller cost items is for the offshore sellers to charge & collect the GST and pay to the NZ IRD, and local customs will collect on items costing over $1,000.

But overseas sellers only have to comply if they sell in total more than $60k to NZ customers per annum. This suggests there is a potential tax collection gap for non-regular offshore sellers and goods up to $1,000.

I purchased Cylance antiviral software online for NZD59 and got charged GST.
I would be surprised if Cylance sells more than $60K to NZ customers??
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Some online retailers have realised that they can purport to collect the tax (and add 15% the price) but then never actually pay it on. Money for jam.

i end up purchased on reverb and work with the seller (private listing) by putting a lower amount and get it into NZ without paying GST or Duty. that said, i do not recommend anyone doing this for the insurance perspective

If it is a retailer, you will be paying gst 90% of the time.

Interesting as there is no GST on sale of second hand goods in NZ.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

I’m pretty sure secondhand stores and the like pay GST.
