Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
It looks like the original video came from a demolition worker rather than Gibson. I'm not sure how discrete he was asked to be but there's probably money in the traffic on his YT site.

.. can't quite picture how something on a guitar can be unsafe yet not a super easy fix to make safeGrantB wrote:unsafe components.

If I was in highschool learning guitar and was told we were getting some Gibsons I'd be pretty freaking excited, and equally disappointed upon learning they'd be Firebird X's.

These guitars were full of their weird bluetooth connectivity and robot tuner nonsense, so not a normal set of electrical/electronic components.willow13 wrote:.. can't quite picture how something on a guitar can be unsafe yet not a super easy fix to make safeGrantB wrote:unsafe components.

True but provided they had a 9v battery in them they could be used without all the accompanying paraphernalia.Danger Mouse wrote:These guitars were full of their weird bluetooth connectivity and robot tuner nonsense, so not a normal set of electrical/electronic components.willow13 wrote:.. can't quite picture how something on a guitar can be unsafe yet not a super easy fix to make safeGrantB wrote:unsafe components.

This isolated group of Firebird X models were unable to be donated for any purpose and were destroyed accordingly.
"destroyed accordingly"
haha you just happen to have a 20 ton digger sitting around especially for these moments

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
I reckon it is a bit of a stretch in real terms, but in the litigation-mad US, where they have to put warnings on coffee cups that the contents may be hot, even the smallest risk could be used to term the guitars unsafe.Molly wrote:True but provided they had a 9v battery in them they could be used without all the accompanying paraphernalia.Danger Mouse wrote:These guitars were full of their weird bluetooth connectivity and robot tuner nonsense, so not a normal set of electrical/electronic components.willow13 wrote:

That was my first thought too when I first saw radio and robot electronics... if it went all Samsung-esque I can see crotches (depending on strap length) catching fire mid gig!Danger Mouse wrote:I reckon it is a bit of a stretch in real terms, but in the litigation-mad US, where they have to put warnings on coffee cups that the contents may be hot, even the smallest risk could be used to term the guitars unsafe.Molly wrote:True but provided they had a 9v battery in them they could be used without all the accompanying paraphernalia.Danger Mouse wrote:

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
To be fair there's a little more to that case, third degree burns and being hospitalised is not a "hot" cup of coffee but a dangerously scalding cup of coffee. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck_v ... estaurantsDanger Mouse wrote:I reckon it is a bit of a stretch in real terms, but in the litigation-mad US, where they have to put warnings on coffee cups that the contents may be hot, even the smallest risk could be used to term the guitars unsafe.Molly wrote:True but provided they had a 9v battery in them they could be used without all the accompanying paraphernalia.Danger Mouse wrote:

I suspect that an 82 to 88 degree coffee cup wouldn't do that, but an indifferently microwaved cup definitely could get super heated above boiling point, making it a dangerous thing to do: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheating
Have I proof? No. Does it fit the evidence? Mostly.
Is it impossible that a McDonalds branch would use up the last of a cool coffee pot by heating it and then avoid admitting it to the Corporation?

If your healthcare isn't covered by insurance, you have little choice in the land that has the highest healthcare costs in the world. In fact your insurance company may only cover you IF you sue. Like the woman who had to sue to get her insurance to pay out and got roasted on the internet because that part was missed in all the news stories: https://nypost.com/2015/10/14/aunt-who- ... wyer-says/Danger Mouse wrote:I reckon it is a bit of a stretch in real terms, but in the litigation-mad US, where they have to put warnings on coffee cups that the contents may be hot, even the smallest risk could be used to term the guitars unsafe.Molly wrote:True but provided they had a 9v battery in them they could be used without all the accompanying paraphernalia.Danger Mouse wrote:
