Yikes! Really? Were quilt tops common among 59 LPs? I thought they were mostly just flame tops. Something about the quilt top patterns makes me feel uneasy/queasy.robthemac wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 10:51 pm When I think "1959 Les Paul", I think of this

If this is truly an R7 makeover, this deserves its place in the Gibson shocker thread.

I think any maple with mineral steaks etc would be covered under a solid finish in the custom shop. Although I really think they should just send it to the USA factory and get it on a Standard instead.robthemac wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 3:33 pm If this is truly an R7 makeover, this deserves its place in the Gibson shocker thread.

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
Bloody hell, I'd pay Gibson good money for something with modest flame but huge mineral deposits. I think they're they best-looking tops.godgrinder wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 3:42 pmI think any maple with mineral steaks etc would be covered under a solid finish in the custom shop. Reckon this is an aggressive interpretation of "light ageing", or was it dropped on it's face after birth? My guess is the latter.

Re: Return of the Gibbons shocker thread!
Early run of Murphy Lab had some issues with the lacquer chipping away since they were using a new nitro formulation at the time which was crispier. It has been fixed now but these early ones are a PITA for dealers to get rid of now.robthemac wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 2:31 pm Reckon this is an aggressive interpretation of "light ageing", or was it dropped on it's face after birth? I wouldn't mind it. It'd start looking pretty old pretty quickly.godgrinder wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 9:30 pmEarly run of Murphy Lab had some issues with the lacquer chipping away since they were using a new nitro formulation at the time which was crispier.
