Cheers, thanks for that. The neck on my strat is a bit battered on the back (from leaning against table edges before i got a stand) so this might be just the ticket to tidy it up.BG wrote:I've used it mostly on maple, works a treat. It should be good on the fretboard as well though I've never tried it on Rosewood - some of the US guys have though. I just give my rosewood boards a bit of lemon oil every three months or so.

Cool, any minor dings should come out with a damp cloth and soldering iron first, I've repaired even quite bad dings like that - the fibres just spring back out and only need a quick sand to finish them off.alf wrote:Cheers, thanks for that. Pretty amazing that eh! Have seen some pretty nasty dings and dents come out with just wet paper towels and a clothes iron.BG wrote:

Re: Shaving your neck?
Yeah I posted a couple of pics of a stuff up I made when making the Anti-Tele, drilling the holes for the control pots and the drill bit snagged on the cloth underneath the body - ironically it was supposed to protect it from dings
The drill wound right into the face of the guitar, the chuck dinged badly around the hole. About an hour later with a bit of patience, soldering iron and damp cloth, it was virtually undetectable
Always worth a try!

I hadn't heard of that trick before, have just tried it and so far it looks to have worked a trick! You are the man.BG wrote: Cool, any minor dings should come out with a damp cloth and soldering iron first, I've repaired even quite bad dings like that - the fibres just spring back out and only need a quick sand to finish them off.

I'm thinking of actually shaving the back of the neck on my Jazzmaster knockoff cos it's way too baseball batsy U shape and I prefer a thin feeling C. Anyone done this? How?

Re: Shaving your neck?
Skim reading this and I thought you were trying to use the guitar to shave the back of your neck. Boy was I confused.

Re: Shaving your neck?
Yes, belt sander....
Joking, spokeshave or rasp for the grunt then progress through sandpaper grades and finish with 'merican gunstock oil. Go with the grain...
And don't go as far as the truss rod starts poking out the back of the neck

Yup! The finer side of a shinto rasp to quickly get to the desired profile, followed by increasingly finer grades of sandpaper.

Re: Shaving your neck?
Nice this thread has popped up again, I remember it from back in the day.
A question. How about Tung oil or Danish oil? Has anyone here used either of these on their necks?
