Lyrical Hooks
You know they're there but I've hit some surprising blues ones. A couple really elevate the song from the similarity of most Gm 12 bar blues... My favourite verse in a blues song is probably BB Kings 'How Blue Can You Get' which is a standard sort of 'in pain' blues song, it starts with 'Been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met' and continues until you get to the breakdown verse....
"I gave you a brand new Ford
and you just said I want a Cadillac
I bought you a ten dollar dinner
You said Thanks for the snack
I let you live in my penthouse
You said it was just a shack
I gave you seven children
and now you wanna give 'em back"
Seven children I'd want to give the feckers back too....
Any more you can think of in this vain? I can think of a lot of blues ones but nothing remotely pop... Sure the blues is about feeling the pain, but its also about laughing at it. I reckon the most famous of all is the "I know her sister will....." 5 points for the correct artist and song
I mention this mainly cos the missus has just rewritten one of my songs and added a similar sort of ending which makes it such a better song than I'd originally written. Bloody writers, they think they're so goddamned clever I'll have to credit her now too

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.
Re: Lyrical Hooks
I've heard that it's good to think before you speak
Though I've heard that it's good to bathe yourself once a week
Oh I've heard that it's good to look before you cross
No one, no one will ever find you if you don't get yourself lost.
The last line in paticular for me.

Re: Lyrical Hooks
I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you

Re: Lyrical Hooks
thats why theres 8 bar blues, 10 bar blues and even 13 bar blues. A lot of the old songs combine different lengths in all one song, listen to John Lee Hooker, Honeyboy Edwards or any of the old guys, they change the length at will.... that would keep the band awakeTMG 03 wrote:Blues Lyrics can be fun, its the 12 bar format that drags on.

i've always liked goin down slow, steady rollin man, back door man, hoochie coochie man, mannish boy
i love the 13 bar blues for confusing people, sounds sick aswell, kinda hard to do it in a band setting but theres a clip on youtube where buddy guy does it once in a 12 bar song, and the band follows, sounds awesome
