I have a bass (Rickenbacker 4003) and a keyboard too (Nord Stage 3), for some fun looping sessions.
Both of those SG's are special...especially the Special! But yeah, I've never seen a '63 Special RI before. And those '64 Standards are awesome. Larger neck right, more like an R9? There was one for sale on TM for a while which kept tempting me.

Rad! That's very tidy.
Thanks!! I’m all about the tidy when it comes to gear, especially since it lives in our bedroom :-)

Could we please get some more photos of the R8? Bonus points for toes.

The neck is my favorite feature of that guitar. The neck profile is unique to the '64 (and '65). It's very '59ish at the nut, but it thickens up from around the 9th fret upwards. Comfortable for chords and great to leverage off for bends up the neck.

The Special is a limited run Gibson CS did for Japan only. They made 18 Standards and 18 Specials. I bought it off an American military guy, based in Okinawa. They made them before they started the current run of '63 Specials with the lighting bolt tailpiece.

What finish is that? Looks like a Lemon Burst sans-burst.

Honey Lemon fade in VOS. Just like a Lemon Burst, but a little dirty around the edges.

Nice! I wonder what the 63 Standard RI looks like...better find a pic. I have a '63 Junior that has a HUGE neck. Like an R8 without so much shoulder. '65 SG's have a wide variety of shapes and nuances. They start the year like the '64 (but not all of them), then they shift to a thinner more classic 60's taper all the way up, then the nut narrows to 1" 9/16th, then they fatten up the profile around the 12th once again. A true transition year.

'63 Jr must be a great little guitar to own and play. I played a '62 Jr in Denmark St Guitars in London. I wanted to buy it, but didn't want to lug it around for the rest of the trip.
