Saved from a fate worse than Denche

Post by Capt. Black »

A few weeks back I scored this early sixties Jansen just to annoy Denche who was also bidding on it.

Had it delivered straight to Clarry who had a look at it, copped an electric shock off it, recovered from that, replaced lots of bits on it, fixed up a number of manky fuck ups made by other techs and now its back to "out of the factory" spec.

Clarry tells me it is Class A design with 6L6 which he reckons is quite uncommon to see. This model of Jansen is more commonly seen running EL84 so i'm kinda happy to have something rarer in the collection.

Sounds good with my G12H quad but i'm looking forward to pairing it up with the vintage alnico speakers I scored around the same time.

Roll on the next gear fest.

I've got a ton of darkroom gear looking for a home. No enlargers left but everything else you could want.

The pic is 'as shot' with my lovely D-SLR. I thought it deserved the period correct contrasty monochrome with flash look.

Rocklander, you crack me up.

Is that the one Mike Fabulous was selling?

-That's the one Jansen amp I'd really like to have. Too cool. Enjoy!

-if you don't mind me asking, what's the current denche-beating rate for one of those?

Yeah that's it. Do you know him?

Was about $336 from memory. While very original in that it wasn't drilled or clumsily modded, it did need a lot doing. I tend to get amps serviced as soon as I get them. Especially if they're older so I expect to have to do some work on them. This was nowhere near as good as advertised. In fact Clarry classed it as non-functional. Required a lot of parts replaced and circuit work arounds re-done.
It's kinda good that it wasn't sold to someone who thought they could just start using it..... would nae be safe. ;)

'S good now though. :D

You know, I thought I'd seen just about every jansen amp out there. That's one which slipped past me. I certainly don't recall seeing one like it.
