NGibsonShockerD

Post by kdawg2a »

I've been searching for an SG for a while. They're a guitar I've always loved but they've never seemed to stay too long in the stable, always getting traded out for something else. Hopefully this one sticks around because it's a lovely guitar to play, 2014 SG 61 reissue;

As the more astute of you will notice, it has a Bigsby B5 installed. I was actually looking for a 61 reissue with the long tailpiece Maestro but this one came up for a good price. The Bigsby is great but in keeping more with the aesthetic lines of a Maestro I swapped it out for this;

The guitar plays great and the 57 classic humbckers suit it well. Capable of nice chime but easily driven into gainy tastiness when required.

So, hopefully a keeper! Now I need to build something I can install a B5 onto...

1958 Fender twin, 1965 Vox AC30, 1966 Marshall JTM 45, 1977 Dumble OD Special.
Big black garbage bag full of original Klon Centaurs and TS808s.

Very cool and correctly wiggle-afied
The horn bouts on the SG always make me think of a tin opener.

I've always thought they've had a devils horns / campy Adam West Batman logo feel to them. Nothing pleases the dark lord more than campy Adam West.

Niiiice. I had an '03 for years. I hate trems, but don't hate them on this one for some reason. Perhaps having it propped up on a vintage-styled brown case adds an era-authentic vibe I can appreciate.

I love the big old hunk of aluminum string anchor that a Bigsby provides. They've always made every guitar I've fitted them to feel more resonant and robust. As far as a trem is concerned, they're ok but best to leave until the end of a song so you can retune before the next one!

This thing is epic! How does it balance, any neck dive?

The bigsby helps out a lot with the neck dive problem. It balances very well.
