HNOG
Happy new old guitar.
Just bought this '74 Strat from a local chap. I wasn't convinced I'd like it but I immediately did. It's had some work over time (reflected in the price) including new frets and a neck refin. God knows what else has been changed but the pickups are Custom Shop '69 Abbey Ybarra signed jobbies that just sound proper. It's also pretty light.
I barely play my guitar these days but when I do I really want it to sound good. Not 'close' like my Strat with noise cancelling pickups. And I think this one does so I don't care if it's been messed about with.

Love the 5 70s saddles and then the one 60s one! I've got a set of those Abbey Ybarra pickups in my favorite strat. They're phenomenal.
1935 Martin D-45, 1942 Gibson Southern Jumbo,1950 Fender Broadcaster, 1954 Fender Strat, 1958 Gibson Moderne prototype, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
1958 Fender twin, 1965 Vox AC30, 1966 Marshall JTM 45, 1977 Dumble OD Special.
Big black garbage bag full of original Klon Centaurs and TS808s.

Re: HNOG
Thats cool Molly. And youre right, its of an era that you can happily do what ever to make it play and sound right without worrying too much about it.
I like how the three hole guard makes it look like a scary ghost waving its arms.
I have a similar era sunburst P bass with a maple board. The peeling lacquer on the neck is horrible. If I were to do anything to that bass it would be refin the neck. And when I say id refin the neck Id definetly get someone else to.
Ive had two 70s fenders. Both had a certain 'smell' to them. Once was rediculous. I had to baking soda and quarantine the thing.

Re: HNOG
The chap had quite a few vintage guitars. Played a 60s 330 with a single pickup in the middle position. It felt so fragile I was scared of it... Also played a 60s Telecaster. Every time I play a nice Tele I miss my old Nocaster. Teles beat-up Strats I reckon

Re: HNOG
Looks great, that’s a cool acquisition. Also guessing it must make you feel more comfortable if the guy you’re buying it from has other vintage guitars in his stable
Looks the job anyway, nice one Brian

Yes. I've bought and sold a bit with the guy. He's a minister or some such. Just plays at his church. Genuine, decent guy.MiniForklift wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 10:12 am Looks great, that’s a cool acquisition.
