NLPD: 2014 Les Paul Studio

Post by vintage52 »

Friend of mine had a bike accident a while ago and decided to move all his gear on.

There was a full pedal board, an amp and the LP Studio.

It’s a 120th Anniversary model according to the inlay at the 12th fret.

Hadn’t been played for some time - a new set of strings and bit of tweaking and away laughing.

I once had a 1997 Tobacco Burst Standard and never really gelled with it so thought I’d give the old LP another go.

To get the LP, I had to buy the lot as he didn’t want to mess around.

Was a bit of a challenge moving stuff but it made the LP affordable for me and low risk if I need to move it on.

I’m liking the sounds, feel and playability of it.

Through the RD Custom into my L5T is rock n roll heaven.

Being a single coil player for almost 20 years, I forgot how much more a humbucker is. The chunk and heft of the 490s are very nice.

The coil tapping feature is rubbish….don’t like the tone of that at all but as discussed in another thread, plenty of options to sort it.

Awesome! Sorry to hear about your friends accident :-(

When I was talking to Glyn about humbuckers for my Kramer I mentioned I would wire it up for coil tap and he said I should do a series / parallel switch instead as it has less volume drop and you still get the hum cancelling, could be worth a crack!
Just keep me where the light is

Great way to dip your toe back into humbuckers.
A Mr Glynns integrity set (vintage PAF style) would compliment this instrument perfectly and really open it up.
