Mine had K100’s. The funny part is that you can often find quads cheaper than 2x12”s haha.Aquila Rossa wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 5:48 pm
What type is the Mode Four cab? Vintage 30MF speakers or the K100?
I was scrimping and saving looking at budget 2x12s used, but I got repaid some money and suddenly I have a full stack, plus a new Explorer. Happy days![]()

Hahaaaaa, this feels like a "Hold my beer..." moment.
This one time, back when I ran The Manor, my rehearsal studio just off Queen St in Auckland.
My mate Robbie (aka Porkpie) came to visit from Chch.
We decided to fire up my two Marshall stacks and run them together.'74 Super Bass patched over to a '77 Super Lead. Cranked. In a room 4m x 4m.
We lasted about three strums before deciding it would probably be more enjoyable to go out into the hallway and only have the door open about 10cm.
We blasted away for a while and it was glorious.
Next thing, Mike walks in (aka thewilltopowerrock) kinda wide eyed in amazement. His comment... "Fuck man, I could hear that as I was walking down Queen Street!"

I will not use mine so often. Just for the occasional high decibel hoon on weekends.
I use DAW or play unplugged the rest of the time, e.g., I sit there in my comfy grandpa recliner noodling along to House of the Dragon etc.
Not a waste of money getting a full stack though. It's worth every penny just for the smile it puts on my face every time walk in the living room and see it towering over my workstation like Sauron's digs.

Visiting the Manor was what got me wise to how not all Marshall 4x12s are created equal. I thought any old 1960 cab would do before that day. It's blasted into my memory how your 1960B cab loaded with H30s blew my T75 loaded 1960A cab out of the water. It was not even close. I do not know why there was such a massive difference. T75s can sound good too and so can a slant cab, so there was something different about the construction of cabs themselves I figured.Capt. Looks like Zakk scribbled all over your cab.

I've owned a bunch of G12-75 loaded 1960 A and B cabs and the A cabs definitely sounded peakier. Maybe just cos they're angled toward the ear?
In any case, I always found G12-Ts to sound "disconnected" for my taste. They don't really interact with the amp that nicely. I liked the idea of having lower power speakers, close to that of the amp. I theorised that they'd be driven harder, earlier and become part of the total sound. Always found Greenbacks to be a bit flubby. G12-Hs just hit a sweet spot and to my ears, sound good with anything.
I think that's what you were probably hearing when you tried mine.

Depends which generation of t75 you're talking about. Theres been about 5 generations/iterations of the t75 speaker design, although it's lineage goes back to a higher powered greenback. The latest gen is my least favourite, very scooped, very bright.

I thought so - not the kind of thing you easily take to a signing...

My 1960a cab has these strange looking T75s like in this pic I googled.
I have not had them long enough to know for sure and describe their tone properly. Not as smooth as the G12Hs in the Laney cab, but more oomph in the lows. Highs seem a bit harsh, but I should be able to dial that out.
I never knew they existed. Do you know anything about them?

Late 80s to early 90s. I think they were phased out around 1992 or 1993 or so. The code on the side will confirm.Aquila Rossa wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 5:33 pmNippleWrestler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:06 pm Depends which generation of t75 you're talking about. Yeah. The 1st gen “white labels” sound great. Much fuller in the mids. Just musical all round. Rumour has it that they’re what Metallica used on RTL and MOP.NippleWrestler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:06 pm Depends which generation of t75 you're talking about.
