NAD: Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne Head
Did a quick roadie to Fielding to pick up the Electra Dyne short head that has been tempting me for ages on Trade Me. Hell of a nice geezer that was selling it and had owned it from new.I Wasn’t sure I needed it, but after plugging it in and having a wail, I think it’s a keeper. Amazing clean and best reverb I’ve heard, (Not that I’ve heard that many). The clean channel is very Fender black face and with the volume cranked has a really nice bit of break up. The drive channels sound humongous and even though there’s only one set of Eq knobs, they’ve voiced each channel to sound natural. Freaking loud and freaking heavy, but one of those sounds that you get lost in and just play. Definitely not your dual rectifier, but has enough gain to rock. May be the honeymoon phase but first impressions are good.

I liked these heads when they first came out, can’t remember why I didn’t buy one, probably had no money!
Not so popular among some, but they’re nice and simple and sound all good to me!

I was in the wrong thread, I was getting mixed up with the other mesa currently being discussed

I used to have one and loved it. Strange that they faded into obscurity.

Used by Mr Springsteen in his touring rig I believe.

Re: NAD: Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne Head
These were cool. Aimed to be American clean and a British drive sound in one, right?

Same here. I can't remember why I sold it.Basket Case wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 6:06 pm I used to have one and loved it. Strange that they faded into obscurity.

That's my understanding too.

Re: NAD: Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne Head
How do the channels work, again? Are the knob settings shared between the two channels? And reverb is only on the clean?

Re: NAD: Mesa Boogie Electra Dyne Head
Yeah, I think they got that about right. The drive doesn’t quite have a Marshall mid bark, but it still sounds raucous. It might get closer with EL34s which you can put in, but I’ve stuck with the 6l6.
