NPD - Mystery Boss Black SD-1 40th Anniversary

Post by Dano_NZ »

Just picked this up from the good folks at the Wellington Rockshop. A Boss SD-1 4A (40th Anniversary) Google tells me nothing about this enigma. Opened it up and its SMD unlike the DS-1 4A. Has anyone seen one of these or have any info?

I love the SD1. First pedal I ever bought after seeing Ozzy with Zakk at the Logan Campbell centre in ‘98. I have a bunch of them - not sure why - the first one still slays..... that’s all....

Zakk pre caveman days - Leopard print flares and bowler hat! Castillo left after the gig with a girl on each arm and a huge cigar - Zakk told him to behave himself tonight. Everyone laughed. Ozzy stopped to sign an autograph for a dude in a wheelchair - Ozzy leaves - dude in wheel chair stands up and pushes wheel chair back to his car. Talk about some life lessons....

What's the 40th Anni one worth from the RS? I had a quick look online and couldn't see it.

Not really in the market, as the one I have is plenty good enough, just curious.

I imagine it’s SMD because it’s IC based unlike the DS-1 which still uses transistors :)

Modern ds1s are also smt. They've always been single layer PCBs anyway so this makes a lot of sense.

The ds1 also uses a dual opamp (NJM2904L since 2006) as well as transistors which I suspect are for buffering purposes.

Incidentally, smt is now the only way to get obsolete components like j201 transistors.
