I tried to have the basic food groups and this is what I ended up with...
From bottom to top:
Suhr Bella: For me this is as good as it gets in the clean-broken up Fender territory. I used to have a ‘67 Pro Reverb that I loved, but I dare say I prefer the Bella. Takes pedals like a champ. I’ve got RCA 12AX7s and Sylvania STR-415 6L6s in this.
Vox AC30 CCH: I was actually looking at a Matchless HC30 to fill this role, but I got this AC30 head as a trade for a Roger Mayer Voodo Vibe (thanks Jake!). It actually sounds really good with the master on max. Chinese 9th gen 12 AX7s and JJ EL84s & GZ34 tubes in this.
Rockitt Retro 1986 (50W bass Plexi clone): Over the years, my favourite Marshalls tended to be the bass/Superbasses. I guess being primarily a Strat player, the big low end works well. Kevin’s clone is as good as it gets for me, without paying through the nose for a vintage original. Loves pedals, especially Fuzzes, Boosts and Overdrives. Mullard i63 ECC83s and JJ EL34s in this.
Soldano SLO100 Mk 1: My first good amp was a Marshall JCM800 2203, and to me the crunch channel is an idealised version of that sound. The overdrive channel is heaps of fun as well. You can really hear the difference between guitars even with high gain. Sovtek coin base 5881s and Mullard i63s / JAN 12AX7WAs in this.
I made a little patch bay to switch any of the 4 amps into a Suhr Reactive Load or a Bogner 4x12 (or a 2nd Suhr Load)
I’d love to know what you think of the setup. I’ll try and get some clips soon.

I think it looks insanely awesome! Even though the Soldano is the only amp that does the sort of things I'm interested in, I can appreciate the others.
Not sure the second amp from the left isn't allowed to be switched in on your patch bay though.

The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

I think you'd love the plexi boosted with something like a SD-1. Authentic 80s tones!Danger Mouse wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 6:13 pm I think it looks insanely awesome! Even though the Soldano is the only amp that does the sort of things I'm interested in, I can appreciate the others.

Btw that Vox is a sleeper, I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded.

Thanks, made the switcher from some Jaycar parts. Happy to wire one up for anyone on the forum as long as I don't have to do the drilling
And yeah the wooden shelf is an improvement for sure!

Yeah it's a neat amp, based on a blackface Bandmaster with some tweed DNA in the tonestack I believe.

Btw any of the forumites in AKL are welcome to come over and have a play during downtime, they're running through loadboxes so no worries about disturbing the neighbours. Drop me a PM and we'll figure out a time.
Also I'm thinking about opening up for guitar recordings, so in case you have a project coming up get in touch.

Does it get much clean headroom before it tweeds up?

Yup it stays clean till around 4-5 with a Strat before it starts to break up.StrummersOfThunder wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 6:48 pm

From Distinctive Guitar (on Reverb) when I was on a US Tour in 2016.
Btw you can easily convert a 110V to 240V, just needed to swap one wire.
