Rediscovery!!!

Post by Slowy »

Ever since Conway had a moment of confused weakness several years ago, I have been the owner of the World's most colourful Rockbox Boiling Point.
(Seriously; never seen another one like it.)

It has ferocious gain levels and I found it too strident to use with my EL84 amp so it has spent much time in its gold lined, red velvet bag.

Put it back on the board this week to try with a 6L6 based amp and the affinity was immediate. It still has outrageous gain but the range of tones and colour it produces is amazing. Every setting on that sheet is distinctly different, ranging from sparkly clean to angry Vox, Marshally roar and soaring lead tones.
The downside is that ideally, you'd have 3 of them so you didn't have to fiddle with it.

But in the world of pedal design, this thing is a major achievement!

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
