HNPRSD

Post by Molly »

Happy New PRS Day.

Thanks to Danny for bringing this to my attention. Collected it this afternoon from a nice guy in Christchurch. It's a 96 PRS C22 and it sounds fucking great (but you can hear that for yourself at Gearfest). Middle position is out of phase but I'll be changing that.

It's black but under direct light looks purple. First pic is pre-clean-up. Plenty of blemishes etc. Really deep contours. Bigger neck than I was expecting. Feels great. Anyway, $1,500 well spent I reckon.

To be fair I've picked the most complimentary pics from the dozens I took.

It's not fault-free. The nut's been shimmed and needs replacing. One or two fret dings that may or may not be a problem. In fairness it's 24 years old and it's definitely been played so you have to expect a bit of that. Fretboard has those divots you associate with vintage guitars where the wood has worn. Again, definitely been played a lot (a good sign I suppose).

Sounds bloody good through that RK50.

Amazing what you buy when looking for another Strat. Back on form bro...

Nice one Brian, I have an itch for a few things at the moment with PRS being one of them. Good to hear it sounds great!

I wonder sometimes if it's just a fortunate coincidence that a particular guitar comes along at the same time as a particular amp. I've had Dragon II pickups in the past and thought they were crap, and I've been surprised to see some getting cork-sniffy about PRS Dragon pickups in general. I just assumed it was the usual BS we heap upon things because they're now old.

The pickups were set low and reading-up I gather they're bass-heavy so that might explain that. But through the RK50 I did really like them immediately; even with dead strings. So, no plans to change them. I'll just flip one so I don't have to listen to that nasaly mid-position.

Still looking for a Strat. Have my eye on one :-)
