Ash Customworks stuff 2012
That looks amazing Adrian.
What tonal properties does Korina have? Closer to, say, alder or mahogany?

Nice Adrian. Assuming your most excellent pickups are in this also?

That looks great!
I'm not ashamed to say that I love teles. I also love Ash's pickups.

Very similar to mahogany, but airier and brighter. Different people hear different things about how it compares to mahogany, but most agree that it is in the mahogany ballpark.Rhettsauce wrote:That looks amazing Adrian.

Nope, DiMarzio P90 and PAF.*UNIQUE* wrote:Nice Adrian. Assuming your most excellent pickups are in this also?
I was expecting to be hawking this guitar at the Gearfest tomorrow until someone swooped in and bought it. Rotovegas timing may prevent that anyway.

Nice work.
I was asking a RS salesperson about a Charvel they have that is styled after a telecaster and if it is capable of tele-like sounds. He said the thing that gives the tele most of its distinctive sound is the bridge and pup all together in the metal thingie bit (my paraphrase). Does that mean that your bucker in there makes it sound less tele, or was the RS guy making it up or overstating the importance of that metal bit to the overall sound?

Tele-skeptics repent!
That is beautiful. Love a natural finish like that.

Never! Although I must reiterate, there's something about Ash's work that makes me want to bat for the other team.WellyBlues wrote:Tele-skeptics repent!

The things that make a tele sound like a tele include the following:Aquila Rosso wrote:Nice work.

Bridge
Pickups
Metal plate under the bridge pickup
Strings through the body
Body wood
Neck wood
Un-contoured slab body
Overall neck design
etc...
The things you can change and have it still sound like a tele include:
Bridge
Pickups
Metal plate under the bridge pickup
Strings through the body
Body wood
Neck wood
Un-contoured slab body
Overall neck design
etc...
Confusing, right?
They all count, but none are absolute/definitive. The bridge/pickup one is the one that doesn't feature on other classic designs, so is the most unique tele thing. But a guitar can still sound recognisably tele-ish without it.
Most people would say the body shape has no effect on tone and some say it does. The biggest effect the body shape has on tone is that the player sees it, thinks "tele" and starts playing tele-ish music, twanging and snapping away at the string, chicken picking or whatever. So the body shape has had an effect... just in the other direction, from the player into the guitar.
I used to try and get people to look at the core of the guitar before deciding what it was, but gave up in frustration and decided to just name them on the body shape like everyone else does.
