I think Mayer gave a roundabout answer that implied it was real, after Mr JHS said (I thought point blank, but maybe I recall wrong) that it wasn’t a Ceriatone.

Re: John Mayer Megathread
With Taylor Swift continuing to re-record her early albums, there's been a bit of publicity about the relationships her songs are based on. Speak Now is the next album that will be released, which features 'Dear John'.
I had a good listen to this track today, and honestly, it's a masterpiece. Solid lyrics, uncomplicated but memorable melody, and a vocal performance delivered with real pain. But what makes it special is all the Mayer motifs in the recording. A slow 6/8 centred around D and G, released not too long after 'Gravity'. Bluesy extensions of chords highlighting the melody. Strats in positions 2 and 5. Double-tracked blackface cleans and Dumble-like crunch, gradually crescendoing into heavy overdrive. Gratuitous bends underlying the final chorus. If someone told me JM was playing, I'd buy it.

Nice, I may get another guitar next year !
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
