Amato is the lead guitarist in REO Speedwagon. This band is a Reagan-era middle of the road rock band. "Keep on Loving You" is their big lighter waving hit. Remembered fondly by baby boomers in the States, they are popular only there.

He admits he just buys guitars to complete sets. For example, he has 1983 explorer, flying V and moderne in korina wood, but only plays the V, not very often.

Re: Dave Amato's guitar collection
Probably from companies looking to endorse him and sending him product to keep/try out. A mate of mine is in a pretty famous band. He mentioned he liked the look of Sadowsky basses. His record label reached out, Sadowsky sent him 5 handmade basses to sample, keep, use, whatever. Orange amps did the same.Basket Case wrote:Jeezus! If you're in a band touring a lot with good visibility you do get some nice benefits when it comes to gear.
Or this dude just bought them all because he liked the look of them.

Re: Dave Amato's guitar collection
In 1989, Slash asked Gibson for some Les Pauls to tour with. Gibson built him two plain top Standards - and made Slash pay for them. Slash single handedly rebuilt the reputation of the Les Paul when everyone had been buying superstrats, and filled Gibson's coffers.

I bet he's had better service since then though.werdna wrote:In 1989, Slash asked Gibson for some Les Pauls to tour with. Gibson built him two plain top Standards - and made Slash pay for them. He should have been given free shares in Gibson. But valueless by 2019.jimi wrote:I bet he's had better service since then though.werdna wrote:In 1989, Slash asked Gibson for some Les Pauls to tour with. Re: Dave Amato's guitar collection
Yeah one guy I went to school with ended up touring the States a couple of times with his band, they were pretty bog standard thrash metal but had a small following. Last I saw of him on facebook, he was being presented with a free custom shop ESP, after he mentioned in an interview he only played LTDs.NippleWrestler wrote:Probably from companies looking to endorse him and sending him product to keep/try out.
