Yngwie Saves Fender

Post by Vince »

"claims that his debut album played a significant role in keeping Fender afloat when the company went through a challenging period in the mid-1980s."

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/yngwie ... er-fender/

Yes, I *do* remember the huge buzz about him, and yes, I do remember how suddenly, scalloping was the thing to have.

But I think Yngwie may be exaggerating a tad.

What do you guys think?
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Well in the Rising Force era, strats were about as uncool as you could get. Don't agree he made people rush out and buy them, thus saving the company, because they still remained the guitar to avoid for rock and metal in the 80's.

I would have thought it was more SRV
There are still some that think the neck PU is moved to accommodate the extra frets which only proves they cannot detect the difference in length of each.

I thought fenders main problem was there was a period in the mid/late 80's where they did not make them in the USA so things went down for a while but picked up once they were being produced in the US again 4 years later??

you make a good point. think of all the strat guys now who would probably point back to SRV, and then Jimi. that would possibly include John Mayer.

I wonder if Yngwie was referring to the Signature strat having a positive effect on the bottom line perhaps? He and Clapton were the first to have signature Strats (88 I think), which must have had some beneficial effect. And the only reason that sold was because of Rising Force.

Overstating his hand of course, but thats YJM. Certainly had some sort of positive effect though you'd have to think.
