Sleep

Post by berg »

Fellow sleep fan forumites reveal yourself!

Personally I feel that Sleep's Dopesmoker is the quintessential doom anthem. Sleep's Holy Mountain has some great stuff too, as does their most recent album; The Sciences.

Sleep are cool af. I wear the shirt often and get the odd upward nod from metal brethren who know what it means.

High on fire are also rad, but they sound a lot sweatier.

First time I heard Dragonaut was the bike scene in ‘Gummo’. Great soundtrack that introduced me to lots of bands I had never heard of.

i also heard dragonaut as my first exposure to the band,on an earache video comp where they were hilariously out of place alongside napalm death and morbid angel. We only watched it up to the first minute or so because the drummer looked like our mate dave half ass and it gave us a laugh. Then i saw the bike scene in gummo and was like "fuck, thats actually mean as hell".
The rest of it bores me to death though, and Al Cisneros is a fucking wet paper towel of a man. which is why Om is also terrible and why high on fire is way better.Sorry, just finished work for the week and the hatred level are peaking hahaha!

Yeah high on fire are great. I saw them live at The King's Arms (RIP) a while back. After the show my mate and I went to the Turkish Cafe on K Rd and bumped into Matt Pike. Being the embarrassing inebriated fan boys we were my mate was praising Matt Pike about the gig while I was (probably incoherently) raving on about Matt's Les Paul and LP Customs in general. The guy was pretty good about it all.

Saw them live a few years ago, very loud (although not Sunn O))) loud). Too bad Chris Hakius has already retired at that point.
