Stingray with a bit of time is better for me these days, but it NEEDS an Alnico pickup, the two band eq and preferably the John east mids module.

Could you swap the magnets out on the current pickup?

Probably could but higher chance of arsing up and EBMM is extremely tight fisted around getting replacements - you have to send your old one in to get a new one.

As someone guilty of trying to be the guy in your cartoon....

Hit the root on the one. Listen to your drummer. Lock in with the kick. Keep it simple.

And some personal preference dressed up as advice.

Finger pick, have your gain up higher than you need and play with a light touch saves your fingers and gives you some dynamics to work with. If your amp has some grit to it, means you can get some grind when you dig in, and clean up when you play lightly.
