That’s always the problem - P is so safe and so simple it always ends up my default option.

Stingray with a bit of time is better for me these days, but it NEEDS an Alnico pickup, the two band eq and preferably the John east mids module.

Could you swap the magnets out on the current pickup?

Probably could but higher chance of arsing up and EBMM is extremely tight fisted around getting replacements - you have to send your old one in to get a new one.

Humour aside this is a good analogy. Groove is what I would like to achieve - any tips from the old hands?

And some personal preference dressed up as advice.

Finger pick, have your gain up higher than you need and play with a light touch saves your fingers and gives you some dynamics to work with. If your amp has some grit to it, means you can get some grind when you dig in, and clean up when you play lightly.

Nick Beggs wrote that bassline at 21 years of age. I have no hope of playing that.... I've got my lifes work ahead of me learing 'hit me with your rhythm stick' this is a leap above my pay grade ;)

Starts at about 3:30

Loved Howard Jones back in the day too, well crafted songs and a great keyboard player.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Pretty sure the original version of “Too Shy” was Beggs on a Wal

I think I wrote the bass line out some time back. Certainly some 16th note similarities with “Rhythm Stick” which directly quotes a Jack Pastorius/Weather Report tune
