Yes, the P Bass is 1971 and I have had it for a long long time. The Ampeg is an AMUB-1 from 1968. Both great basses

are Gibson bass guitars very popular? I don't see them too often on trademe, and haven't really noticed anyone play them on stage etc.
The Ripper and particularly the Grabber have cult followings but otherwise they're not particularly popular. They tend towards being overly dark sounding, the 3 point bridge is a bastard, they're heavy, and they are BIG. Thunderbird looks cool, and the Jack Cassidy is awesome (although Epiphone)
If you saw a clean Grabber, get it.

Agreed. I had a Grabber which I thought was a nice enough bass, but didn't really do it for me. A non-reverse Thunderbird that has a ...... ahem.. thunderous sound, but I was always afraid I would damage the headstock or even snap it off.
I do have a Jack Casady with flats on and it's a wonderful bass. Still drawn more to Fenders & Rickenbackers though.

Original condition and completely unmolested.
Apparently there was less than 200 made.
So I was quite lucky

Jake Harding, The D4, uses a Gibson, EB. Really good for fast bass riffs - short scale

I have a 1964 Epiphone Newport bass with the huge Gibson humbucker. 27k ohm output, so it really slams amps hard.
Dont see many old Gibson or Epiphone basses around anymore, they used to pop up in the 90s but a lot disappeared overseas when the internet became a thing.
