Picked up a little Blackstar Fly Bass amp today, its pretty decent sounding for such a small amp, and on the subject of budget stuff... the Behringer SF300 (Boss FZ-2 clone) sounds killer with bass, looking forward to spending some more time with it!

Rewired the Artist 5 string tonight, ripped out all the active circuitry bullshit and replaced the 500k pots with 250k, doing standard PJ wiring, 1 vol per pickup and master tone, had a spare pot hole in the guard so put a jack in there, much easier than using the recessed one in the body.
Sounds better now and seems louder too!

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
The cheap setup kit I bought on tardme arrived the other day, had a play today with it and took various internet advices around recommended string heights and got it playing quite nicely with pretty much no buzz anywhere, higher action than I'm used to with a guitar but I guess thats how they roll!
Running about 2.75mm on the low B and E seems to be the sweet spot on this instrument.

Floating or fixed? I'm much preferring a higher action, these days.jeremyb wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 6:28 pm The cheap setup kit I bought on tardme arrived the other day, had a play today with it and took various internet advices around recommended string heights and got it playing quite nicely with pretty much no buzz anywhere, higher action than I'm used to with a guitar but I guess thats how they roll!

Have owned one of the production run Stingrays (called the reflex) with HH in white. Was way too dark - literally could not get enough treble out of it even with new rounds - and hangs off a strap weirdly without an upper horn. If it didn’t have those issues then I’d still have it. Phenomenal bass. Not sad though, to fix those issues I bought a Stingray Special 5 HH and have been chuffed ever since.

Confusion entirely justified. I was thinking strat, not bass. Doh!jeremyb wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:46 amFloating or fixed? I'm confusedIMOCD wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 9:31 pmFloating or fixed? About as exciting as that Tim Henman guy, ex tennis player turned weird shredder.

Re: Anyone like bass guitars?
String gauges for my 5 string... the low B is a bit flappy and kinda useless... I'm not sure what brand is stock on the Artist basses, probably cheap chinese stuff, my verniers measured them at .045 - 0.125, am thinking either .045 - 0.130 or 0.050 to 0.135, this is on a 34" scale, any thoughts? will probably get EB Slinkys as in video comparisons they seem to have the tone I want...
