12 string bass
I was out buying a Gibson today, and the guy in the Rock Shop in Tauranga shows me his custom made bass guitar, one of only 12 in the world. 2 rock stars own 4 each, and this one was made for Kenau Reeves, and three others are floating about. Was as heavy as a whole lotta rosie, and certainly an eye catcher!
Oh and my new toy last but not least, sounds hot thru the Carvin V3!

Piano territory there as far as strings go. Seriously nice. Bet it sounds like God shouting.

Re: 12 string bass
So how do those work? I've always wondered.
I'm guessing the bass strings play though the bass pickups, and the guitar string (tuned to play a fifth power chord?) play through the humbuckers at the bottom. But how do you split the signal so it doesn't all turn to mush?
Do the pickups have a frequency response range or something???

Nothing to see here.

Re: 12 string bass
Kids is(was) a Japanese company that went bankrupt. this is why the run is so limited. Tom Petersson got them into the 12 after he finished with Hamer. Hamer built Petersson's first 12 in the lat '70s with Seymour Duncan (?) doing the electronics . Pretty sure they are all either short or medium scale.
a 12 is normally tuned in octaves. Generally it is split into a multi-amp set up. (One for highs, one for lows etc).
after Petersson's Cheap Trick stuff probably Doug (dUg) Pinninck of King's X and the guy from Pearl Jam are the layers most visible with a 12. pretty sure the Pearl Jam song "Jeremy" (?) starts with a 12 (playing harmonics too..)

Re: 12 string bass
We had some cool basses come through ... some 6 & 8 strings ... some with doubled up high strings and fretless half boards.
Very weird to play ... but kinda cool at the same time.
That 12 string ... is just play weird.
