PRS Singlecut and Gibson LP Traditional tone comparison!

Howdy.

Molly's PRS Singlecut arrived yesterday. I have my thoughts on how it sounds, but I'm interested to hear you thoughts.

I have recorded a little something on both guitars. Chords are on neck pickup, melody is on bridge. Tone and volume on full. Running direct into my PC with Bias FX2 simulating a Dumble into Greenbacks, a little bit of reverb. Pre-amp and Bias FX setting are identical, the only thing that has changed is the guitars. Would obviously prefer to do this with a 'real' amp but I don't own a microphone, so hey it is what it is.

Here's the fun part. I'm not gonna tell you which is the first guitar and which is the second. Let me know which you prefer!

My first impression on laptop speakers is that there isn't much in it and I'm sure I could hear more differences playing them through a tube amp in the room. Second one was softer and rounder in the highs during the melody and the first one was a bit clearer in the neck position.

If it was my choice for your style I'd probably go PRS 594 Hollowbody II, but only because you don't like the big 335 body shape and a semi eats a Les Paul for breakfast on those jazzy clean tones you have going on.

Hmmm. Close and never having played the PRS clean much it's not easy to recognise. I preferred the second one. Hope that's not the Les Paul...

First one has more open treble so I'll pick it's the PRS?
Prefer the first one anyway; more familiar to ears tuned for single coils.

I prefer the second one, but they were very close. No idea which is which...

2nd is LP.

prefer the first, the lead on the second is thin trebly sounding compared to first and maybe slightly thinner on the chords

Listened to it on the mobile. 1st lots of treble, 2nd not and sounded mellower. I ll go 2nd one for the LP.

If it helps, the PRS has SD Alnico II in the neck and BK Mule in the bridge.

I'm going LP 2nd and I prefer that. But you could pretty much eq the other guitar so its sounds virtually the same.

First was LP, second was PRS.

My ears tell me that the PRS has more clarity and definition on the neck pickup, but the Gibson has more clarity on the bridge. Overall, I'm liking the PRS more when playing clean. I'll repeat it with some overdrive tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm gonna have get over my hollow-body objections. Would love a 594, but I think budget-wise a '70s Japanese archtop copy is probably more feasible.
