haha yes. decided to not use my own name to plaster meaningless chatter all over the web :-)

Studio does look cool, but it's actually a shitty garage with some acoustic panels and couple of LED lights. I'm very lucky to have a specific space for music

I'd probably have to read a manual and, honestly, who has the time? :-)

Naa. I mean the cleaver stuff where he synced video with the music an' all that black-magic.

I can actually do this stuff I suppose but I'd get five minutes in and the Mrs or kids would want something. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah all that stuff is quite time consuming sometimes. I've done it enough that I can get it done quite quickly now. Also have the studio permenatly setup to to this stuff, so I don't have to spend an hour setting up gear

Just get started, you'll be surprised at what you can create.

I dropped some prerecorded drums into a time line, moved bits around so there was an obvious verse, pre, and chorus, then grabbed the bass. That baseline was the first thing to come out of my fingers, although it was played terribly. I refined it over 3-4 playthroughs and then recorded it on the next one.
Same kind of deal with the guitars, just got something out. The only part I spent time on was the U2-ey strat part which is all little broken chords and took a while to figure out

at the end of the day I love making shit like this and don't really care if it's good or not, I just need to music to be a happy human :-)

Audio:

All recorded through an interface into Apple Logic. The interface I'm using is way over the top and expensive, but you could use something very simple.
Basically the drums are samples that came with Logic, and I added tracks one at a time.
Bass was plugged in direct and I used an amp sim from Logic.
All the guitars were just a Pro Junior feeding my 4x12 with a mic (Audio Technica AE3000) in front of it, and all the same amp setting (which was loud) and I adjusted the guitar knobs for basic tones.
One part got a bunch of delay and reverb, but those are just Logic FX added after.

Video:
I have two cameras set up in my studio, a GoPro and a Canon C100. After I had run through each part a couple of times so I was fairly confident I could play it, I hit record on both Logic and a camera and recorded the take that made it into the final product. As it happens I messed up the ending on the lead/solo part and left a note hanging and left it in anyway

I have a studio space setup not just with acoustic panels for sound, but also the coloured lights and a really good video face light which is all set up so that it looks cool on camera.
You could just do this stuff anywhere, but for me I'll be more likely to watch if the video has a 'vibe' and it certain helps me be creative too

Took the memory cards out of the cameras and dropped the video and mixed audio track into Final Cut Pro. Synced them all up using the click track at the beginning and then quickly did the video cuts. Whole thing took maybe 2 hours, maybe a bit longer. As I said before, if I had to set up all the gear, it would have taken forever, but I try to have a permanent setup ready to go.

TL;DR, A laptop with video and audio editing software, an audio interface, headphones, a microphone and a video camera.

Thanks for that.

I should talk to the music department about a bit of cross-curricular. That'd give me access to this gear an' some learning.
