Dave Dobbyn - Language

Post by RUDENBARK »

Couldn't find this song yesterday on the net. Well, I found a couple of sort-of versions but they were shit, lol. So I had a listen to the song and came up with something that sounds pretty damn close. Not a proper tab, but this is what I printed out to follow along with last night when I played it, ergo it might be a bit hard to follow, (I did it for personal use and only just decided now to post it, so written in a way that I could follow on the fly). There are nuances in the way it's played, should be able to figure it out if you're listening along, but message me if you have any questions etc.

A E F#m
A E F#m
(intro)

A E F#m
My hands are tied
Oh I could be a victim
A E F#m Bsus
When my tongue won't move
You have it tied with your heartstrings

A E F#m Dsus2
When I needed you most
I couldn't find the language
A E Dsus2
When I needed you more
I couldn't say a word

A E F#m B
My hands truly tied
Yeah I know I'm a prisoner
A E F#m Bsus
When my tongue wouldn't move
You have it tied with your heartstrings again and

A E F#m Dsus2
When I needed you most
I couldn't find the language
A E Dsus2
When I needed you more
I couldn't say a word
A E F#m Dsus2
When I needed you most
I couldn't find the language
A E Dsus2
When I needed you more
I couldn't say a word

F#m D F#m D F#m D
One day a heap on the ground
Next day I'm so proud
Today I don't know - I don't know Hey

A E F#m D

A E F#m Dsus2
Your hands are cold
That's why I try to contain you
A E Dsus2
Now my words are cursed
Ember from the ashes

F#m D F#m D F#m D
One day a heap on the ground
Next day I'm so proud
Today - haven't got a clue

I don't know the song, but doesn't it suck on forums that the formatting of chords over the top of words doesn't match...
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

I tend to em[Am]bed the chords, [G] it works for [C]me.
[Am]even better, when I [G] colour them for simpler [C] reading

Yeah, I noticed that when I posted. Tried to edit and repost but...........yeah, bah, lol, the formatting on here just sux. Didn't think of the embedding idea, will have to do that if I ever post another tab on here. But I pretty much just copied/pasted from the document I made for person use. Put it on here cause the only versions I found online were way out, and I HATE THAT! Sometimes you can be quickly looking for a song, and often find up to three different versions, none of which are correct - really annoying.
I guess I've gone one better huh, correct version (to the best of my ears anyway) in a format no-one can read, lol. But it's not a hard song to follow along with. Even not knowing the song you should be able to get the gist of it within a couple of plays following along with these chords.

That song must be crap, it doesn't contain a single G chord.

In that tab I wrote in a B+ cause I didn't know the proper name for the chord (if it has one). I've had a look online and I *THINK* it might be a B flattened 9th.

How I played that bit is Bmaj on the seventh fret, then moved the third string up one (to the tenth fret). If you're playing Bmaj on the second fret then that'd mean moving the forth string up to the fifth fret.

You're just after that bit of dischord, and that's how I heard it played. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

That's why it worked so well for me - no solo! Lol. Just played it by myself on acoustic, works really well.

You can sing With or Without You along with those chords too. I mean, as a (pop?) standard 3 chord + relative minor chord song you could find thousands of songs to mash it with but that U2 song works really well. I did it all the time when I busked 'round midnight on Victoria St. back in the day.

Dave Dobbyn is a great songsmith. Killer vocal too.
