Hoodoo gurus Miss Free Love

Post by mike »

I've always liked this song:

Definitely exploits the guitar's natural capabilities and just blasts along so well.

Yeah... hmm... I sort of like 1000 Miles Away from that album better. As a song, I mean.

My favourite HG albums would be Stoneage Romeos and Mars Needs Guitars. Death Defying is worth the album price alone. Pity I can't find an official video.

"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

Thanks Willow for fixing that link - I could not make it display correctly despite using the youtube button.

And, yes, Vince I like 1000 Miles Away too.

I haven't seen them live unfortunately. Definitely would like too.

Takes me back to Sydney in '91. This, Losing My Religion, and "I Touch Myself' on heavy MTV / MMM rotation. Bought the album. Love 1000 Miles Away.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll dig it out.

Love Miss Freelove. Saw the Hoodoo Gurus at the Gluepot in 1986 and again at the Logan Campbell Centre in 1989. Live they were a really good band. Great records too. Their style sometimes had influences from the Cramps (Dig Her Up) but at its best was pop rock of a decent calibre (Bittersweet, 1000 Miles, I Want You Back). The guitars were divided up tastefully and interestingly. They were much better than they get credit for being.
In life, don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.
