Same sort of range. Older ones are 10-12" newer ones sometimes as flat as 16".

I had thought the same as you, 12" for a do every thing guitar, I have tried a 16" and it didnt suit me, which was a pity as I liked the rest of the guitar. :?
I like the width and feel of Gibson fretboards, just not the thickness or the rear profile, but didnt know they were 12".

Hey Adrian, are compound necks a lot more costly to make than a standard neck?

Not much more in most cases. It depends on the wood and length etc. Are you considering it? I think its worthwhile, but its not for everyone or every guitar. Staggered strat pickups, tunomatic bridges and Floyd Roses aren't readily compatible, for example. Noth that either affects you.
