Tele 4 way switch wiring.

Post by Slowy »

I was persuaded to solder one up for a bandmate. Being smart, I found a utoob instructional video that looked sober and detailed and followed it.

You guessed it; doesn't work and I can't figure out why.

Can you point me to a simple diagram so I can start again please? And does it matter which way round the switch is before yoou start? I have lifted the earth from the front pIckup cover and I spent ages trying to convince the owner just to get a pre wired unit so the first person to mention Obsidian wire or other prefabs will be banhammered. :x

Yes, switch orientation matters, make sure you didn't wire the switch upside down. You're welcome to drop it over tomorrow and we can sort it out together over a wine/beer.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Isn't there an earthing thing with the 4 way? I've some sketchy memory of it not being earthed to the bridge. But don't hold me to it...

Great offer thanks but a full day unfortunately. How do you tell which way is up? The old fart in the video I watched said it didn't matter.

Neck pickup requires 3 wires for 4 way from memory, so you can do the series / parallel thing.

I used this kit, and followed their diagram, worked for me after some subtle adjustment of the control plate.

Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Not sure how to do, so I am no help at all - but it's the best mod you can ever do to a Tele in my opinion.
