Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
This thread was really in response to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjQWDXxJyu8 The main reasoning for Rhett's view that the 335 is the greatest guitar ever appears to be 'my mum and dad bought me one and it's the bestest most versatile guitar in the whole wide werwd'. I can understand...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
I also liked the 3rd one clean and thought that might be the 335. But I don't know cos Jack won't tell me until more people have guessed.

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
How about this to stir debate... :D In this clip I play four guitars. First clean on the neck and then dirty on the bridge. The four guitars consist of three historic LPs (custombuckers, seth lovers and antiquities), fourth being a Japanese Tokai with BK Mules. No post processing, sound straight fr...

Re: What's on your work bench?
Do you get so far into it and then wish you had left things as they were ? I definitely get this. I had it pretty severely on my recent Chibson refinish attempt. In the end it came out looking 'kinda cool in it's own unique way', but I really just wish I had got a better colour to start with. I'd b...

Re: Fuck Covid Livestream: The Boss Live from the Globe Theatre
That's a great way of dealing with it. Sucks that your gig was cancelled. We were freaking out when we went into level 2 the week before our big first gig. We felt really lucky to have been able to put it on in the end but it was a super close call. No doubt we'll have more upheavals this year. Defi...

Re: What's on your work bench?
1990 LP Standard. Just in for a restring. Nice burst, decent weight, vintage style logo, nice neck, great tone....It's enough to make me think maybe I don't need an Historic.

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
Reading what you guys can hear makes me think that my hearing is way worse than I thought it was :( Don't. I don't have any significant hearing loss, and even listening on TOTL studio IEMs, I could tell which was which. I assume you mean 'couldn't'? Just guessing based on the general tone of your p...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
Well... I could hear a pretty significant difference between the two... and I was listening on my phone. I just listened again with my stereo monitors? Seriously... a pretty significant difference? Enough to declare one a more versatile guitar than the other? OK man I know you're a proffesional stu...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
Oh wow, where did you get those from? I thought they're only available in True Historics or some other equally elite Gibson models? Off a friend. The pickups are worth more than the guitar. It's a travesty. That raises the question... what did your friend replace them with? I actually don't know, h...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
As I don't have either guitar ( I have a pretty good LP knockoff with Custombuckers, but I have never owned a 335) you're in a better position to argue this than me. I have played both, but mostly my thoughts on the subject come from hypothetical theory and listening to comparison videos. So I am d...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
The 335 is significantly warmer sounding.... The LP on the other hand has significantly more bite, cut and attack....the 335 is a much more versatile guitar, and my number 1 for both live and recording. As I don't have either guitar (I have a pretty good LP knockoff with Custombuckers, but I have n...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
I’ll bite. I have a 335 and an LP both with the same bridge pickup, Dimarzio 36th Anni. My 335 also doesn’t have F Holes, so how that makes a difference in this instance, I don’t know. The 335 is significantly warmer sounding, smoother almost. Harmonically, it is richer sounding, with a beautiful, ...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
Oh, I didn't listen to the clip...just based on my experience. Most YT clips are awful tone wise. I'm assuming this one is as well? Maybe, but so are most live sound situations, and you can still probably tell the difference between a strat and a Les Paul. I find it very difficult to hear any thing...

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
I was watching another video about the 4 guitars every guitarist 'needs' (Man there's a lot of bullshit on You Tube): Apparently it's Strat, Tele, LP and 335. I thought, why does anyone NEED an LP and a 335? I mean I can understand you might WANT one, I own lots of things I definitely don't need. Bu...
