Re: Large Headstocks on Strats

Apart from being able to fit a bigger logo on, is there any actual point to having a larger headstock? That was pretty much the reason for them. The black script shows up better on TV too. I've always liked them. My formative guitar years were the early 90s. I liked 'vintage' guitars back then and ...

Not a Strat but this is currently on Vintage guitars and gear NZ on FB. They're a bit of a cool kid indie guitar and they apparently sell at about 4K USD so this could be some pretty sharp buying.

Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

I've owned a 76 and a 79 during my time and all the negative comments above completely relate to those two guitars.

Re: Kapati / welli crew

I bought the Thunderbolt on pre order through Ryan back in the day. Mines got the serial number 000090! It's a really simple amp and it can stay clean well up the volume scale but saturates nicely higher up. The tone control is really functional and it's pretty easy to find the sweet spots depending...

I'm not going to mess with it but I keep thinking how cool it would be with a Bigsby B5 and a P90!

Kdawgs US and A pawnshop prizes no.101

I'm not too sure of the year on this one but here's a mid- late 60s Melodier Sorrento Swinger; IMG_20240306_131611.jpg Going off some of the design details, I think this was probably made in the Kawai factory. As per a lot of these types of guitars this thing has a MASSIVE neck. It's got really dece...

How did you do the checking, heat then freeze spray?
About a month after the last coat I chucked it into the freezer for about 24 hours. I then attacked it with a hair dryer.

Re: What's on your work bench?

Almost finished putting this together for a friend. Lightweight alder body sprayed in black nitrocellulose and then given hairline cracks all over, Fralin pickups 2 x Danelectro style lipsticks and 1 PAF style humbucker. Looks awesome man. What brand is the nitro? I need to track some down at some ...

Kdawgs US and A pawnshop prizes no.12

IMG_20240223_163001.jpg Today's funky offering is a 1964 Kawai S2-V. It has that weird 60s Japanese thing where its a set neck but it still has a neck plate. IMG_20240223_163013.jpg I guess they didn't trust their neck tenons. It plays well and sounds shrill and trashy. IMG_20240223_163025.jpg Pair...

Re: Strats.

I played a Strat exclusively for 16 years, turning it from a mint example into the well worn thing I sold to Molly. I retained an American G&L Legacy that is to this day a perfect tool. It's lovely to play and if you want a Strat sound, any Strat sound, it's right there. I know what I like in a...
