Re: Advice for newbies
Howdy fellow tonefreaks I want to build my first amp. Cant afford the real vintage gear, so I figured I would build it myself. I've ordered Morgan Jones books so I understand the how & the why & will build a simple 5F1 circuit first. I will be building my own bespoke cabinet & had plann...

Re: Guitar dispute, anyone got a lawyer friend?
Bummer. Had my fair share of damage being worse than expected. I’ve now learned to expect the worst. The thing is, if you pass it on, then it becomes someone else’s problem - probably some kid that’s buying the dream guitar he can’t afford. Personally, I’d do the full repair, then you can enjoy the...

Re neck pocket sanding - a file will keep the sides and bottom nice and square.

Got a Martin OOO Jr on the way, decided to go with a smaller guitar, bit easier to handle and they sound really great in demos, solid back and sides too... Arggghhhhhh just got an email, they sold it in the shop yesterday and the site hadn’t been updated :-( Bummer, bloody interweb

Re: What's on your work bench?
Question for guitar builders: Does anyone wax their screws? And what do you use? I'm thinking it might be a good idea for the neck screws at least. Lots of vids on YT recommend paraffin wax, but it doesn't appear to be easily (or cheaply) procured. Others just use candle wax, beeswax and even chaps...

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?
Carefully visually checked my latest amp build... then powered it up without valves, measured relevant voltages, all good. Then valves in and power up - no sparks, no smoke. Measured again and Bias Calculator shows that I am spot on 100% on plate dissipation :D Plugged guitar in and all go. :D :D B...
Re: Greco!
I wonder if it's like DNA, reproductions introduce errors etc etc. A copy of a copy - maybe they exhibit natural relicing from brand new?

Re: Marshall SV20
Those SV20s sound great! I'm thinking hard about building a 20W cathode biased Marshall Plexi style head using the Trinity Custom Plexi 6V6 circuit. I'll include power scaling so output will be infinitely variable between about 3 watts - Max watts. Haven't built anything for a little while! What do...
Re: Greco!
I've got a 1972 Greco J-Bass. It has a dead flat neck (i.e. no radius) and it's great! The early Greco's have a head-stock decal that looks like "Gneco".
