Re: Dr Parts necks
Indeed, I'll probably go with a Mighty Mite one. Just wondered if the Dr Parts ones were any good, because I could then kill two birds with one stone by buying the one from the guy I bought the body from. The Mighty Mite ones suit me best I think. Not too expensive, comes finished, and overall nice ...

Re: Dr Parts necks
I would tend to agree that the Warmoth necks are a bit expensive. $157US for a regular old maple neck that's unfinished. And, if I'm not wrong, you still have to choose the nut material etc, which they then sting you for. And shipping. I shall look elsewhere.

Re: Dr Parts necks
I shall steer clear then. It's not really what I want anyway.

Dr Parts necks
The seller of the nice Warmoth strat body I bought also has a Dr Parts neck he wants to sell. I'm not sure yet whether it has a rosewood or maple fretboard, I much prefer a maple board on a Fender style guitar, so I may not even want it, but can anyone comment on these Dr Parts necks? Are they any g...

Re: Wood dyes/stains
I really don't know what to do now. Everyone is telling me different things. Stain first, no seal first, no, no leave it in the sun so it gets hot then cook an egg on it first. I dunno. At this point, I think I'll dye the wood and then tru-oil it. Seems like the simpler way to go, and should give me...

Re: Wood dyes/stains
How about dying the bare wood, then shooting it with some clear grain filler and then some clear lacquer?

Re: Wood dyes/stains
More questions:
Can I simply apply the dye straight to the wood? Or so I need to seal it first to fill the voids in the grain and then wipe the dye on, then seal again with clear for that smooth, glossy surface that I want?

Re: Wood dyes/stains
Thanks for that fellas. I'm liking the look of the Briwax dye, it seems to come up quite well. Not keen on the black personally. Sorta reminds me of that laminated MDF furiture you can get. Definitely thinking blue, green, or red at this stage. I know I said I wanted to steer away from red, but afte...

Wood dyes/stains
Does anyone have any experience with dying or staining guitar bodies etc. I recently bought a nice Warmoth alder Strat body, and the grain is so nice that it's much too good to cover up. So I've been considering dyes or stains to keep the grain visibile, but add colour. Not really too keen on simply...

Re: Neck finish
Poly as well. Though I've sanded down a Squier neck before and it didn't take much to get it back to the wood. That had a rosewood fretboard though, which I just left alone. Not entirely happy with the frets on this neck though and it's a bit of a waste of money to have them dressed on such a rubbis...

Re: Neck finish
That looks fantastic. I might have to give that a go on the neck on my Squier '51. The finish is quite worn. I've been considering a new neck, but apparently these '51 necks are quite difficult to get a hold of and are a bit different from your average Squier neck. What's the best way to remove the ...

How's an SD Alnico II Pro sound split?
I have a set of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros in my Epiphone Les Paul. Absolutely love them, they sound fantastic. both pickups are fantastic, but I really love the bridge pickup. So I wondered how one of these might go in the bridge of my Squier '51, and how it might sound when coil split? The stoc...
