Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

Current recession mean the below have high levels of variability. Esp in NZ market. Price wise (all three bolts) - '70 to '73 with 60's specs, up to $12K (sometimes more) depending on rarity of colour, condition, etc. 74 - 76 say up to $6-7K (if it's a "good one"). 77 to 79 $2K to 3K gener...

Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

I just sold my BIL’s 76 Strat to a forum member and it’s a great guitar. Awesome neck, really good pickups. I wouldn’t have put my name to it if it had have been anything less than excellent.

And just read the thread title carefully...tough question.

Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

Late 1972. Grey bottom pickups, light, tight and resonant. Great neck. Up to '73 will be light and 60's style, and therefore spendy. After that, pot luck, and therefore cheaper. But the pickups post 76 can be really awesome. Hotter and more upper mids.

I got an Ernie ball recently - top notch. Also my planet waves have lasted 100s of gigs and are still my standard.

Re: Anyone Rocking Vintage Blackface?

Grant B, Conway - you boys wind them up, or keep them clean? Robbie - Bandmaster would stay pretty clean right? Maybe a little grit at the top of the dial? Twins scare me. Usually played at early break up, but yeah, sounds great cranked. I have an attenuator because it is still a loud 12 watts

Re: Anyone Rocking Vintage Blackface?

I have a vintage Silverface Princeton, which is race-nuetral, and identical to its slightly earlier BF equivalent.

I performs beyond the hype. I have played a few BFPRs and the speaker is the weakest link typically. Haven't played any BF DR's.

What a freaky design concept. Seems almost more difficult than the original LP concept. well done on the resto.

Re: Return of the Gibbons shocker thread!

The cool thing about buying old Gibson guitars is, they already made their margin, waaayyyy back. I’m waiting for them to announce you can only ever buy a lease to “own” a Gibson. And any future growth in the value of the asset is theirs to take their share from. "I can't sell you this guitar,...

Works a treat.
Almost…humbuckers, shorter scale….cripple calliper.
That was a lovely thing. Do you still have it?
Indeed I do - it’s a special piece for reasons beyond its amazing sound and playability.
