Re: Gear Quests!

One of my favourite purchases was my 2550 Marshall head. I was in Nelson for New years eve around 2003, popped into Cash Converters and they had a Marshall 2550 head and JCM800 4x12 for $1000, offered them $900 for the head and cab, then had to figure out how to fit it in the boot of my 1986 Honda ...

Re: Gear Quests!

Back in the 90's saw a 1975 Strat - three colour sunburst, maple neck, 3 way switch - listed in Trade and Exchange - dude lived in Woodville. Was selling for $650.00 Rang him and told him I'd take it but would not be up that way for a month. He says that's fine see you then. Rang him weekly just to...

Gear Quests!

Somewhat inspired by the dredge on Optical's Mesa Mark III thread (and the documented trip to bring home from Japan), was thinking about the biggest quest I had to bring something home/get a piece of gear. Living in the USA in 2008 and was planning a trip home. Stopped by a Guitar Centre in Pasadena...

Re: Live & Incubus

I was keen to go but had other plans that night. Probably just as well as my other half would 100% leave me for Brandon Boyd. Might be talking in hyperbole though... let's just say 99% to be fair. (Though having seen play here in the early 00's, I kind of get it - dude must just swim in hot as...

I read this as Eric Cartman dead, and presumed that South Park had been cancelled.

Re: Late 70s Strats - thoughs?

First (decent) guitar was a '79 sunburst with black guard and pickups that I got off the guitar teacher mid-1996 when he left to go on his OE. I paid $600 which was a whopping amount for a 17 year old kid with a supermarket job and I fully lied to my folks about the cost (told them it was half that)...

Re: Cheap is 'GOOOOOD'

Most of the $400-$1000 so called entry level guitars I’ve played have been really good, when you get down to sub $200 it starts to get a bit hairy like cheap tuners and plywood etc but I think even then if you know how to do a basic fret job and setup most can be turned into gigable guitars. One of...

Re: NOGD: Unexpected reunion...

I love these stories. I once tracked down my old Warwick Streamer LX and it was a nice sense of coming home. Sold it again though - I find that I sell things for a reason and buying back only reinforces why I sold it once the nostalgic hit passes. I understand this vibe; if I was still playing in a...
