Re: Buying an HX Stomp on Andertons

I'm about to pull the trigger on an HX Stomp. Rockshop price: $1349, Andertons price: $772 (incl shipping). What's the catch? Will I have to pay GST or duty or anything? Google tells me nothing to pay unless it's over $1k. Things may have changed, but when I bought my Helix a couple of years ago, n...

Re: Rhett Shills Gibbons vs PRS

This is all so down to personal preferences. I've been playing 45 years and have always wanted to love Les Pauls, but have yet to play one I could bond with. I had an SG that came close, but still not quite there. I've had one USA PRS (custom 22) and regret selling it. I've had a few PRS SEs and the...

Re: Jazzmaster Pickguards

Hey learned folk of NZGuitars, Is there any difference between a pickguard for a Japanese Jazzmaster and a US made one? I have a Japanese model want to swap out the existing one for a mint green or of white guard and wanted to check first. Standard 60's JM layout. Cheers :-) I have a bunch of white...

Knew I had a pic somewhere. Me with my Thunder 1a, mid-80s, with my UK band "the Storm".

Re: NGD- 1983 Westone Thunder 1A.

I had one of those brand new in the 80s. Mine was trans black. One of a handful of the many guitars I've owned that I regret selling. Great guitar

Re: The Impossible Complexity of Wire

So.. a question: Traditionally, a solid core is used. I have been informed this is better suited to high impedance signals. Is this correct? Why is solid core used? The solid core vs stranded argument is one I've seen for higher voltage/power applications or data cables. I haven't seen a compelling...

jaycar person "Can I help you" me "no, probably never" Not just Jaycar. Happens to me everywhere. Went to JB Hi Fi the other day to buy a new phone and had to show the sales guy how to use their own website to look up features and specifications so he could answer the questions ...

Re: Favourite open tuning and why?

DADGAD for me too. Went there because of Jimmy Page. Love how it can turn familiar chord shapes into new ideas, and it's difficult to play something that sounds wrong.

Re: The Impossible Complexity of Wire

For passive guitar wiring, pretty much anything that conducts electricity will do the job. Last time I ran out I just took the ends and the outer sleeve off a spare USB cable - four different colours of insulated wire right there.

Bitta grain filler should do the trick.
Or a couple of layers of duct tape....

Re: Re-carve a neck profile

D shape to C is not difficult. Rasps/files or coarse sandpaper on a block to remove the meat, then finer grits until it's smooth enough for a finish. Tru-oil or wipe-on poly are easy. Just don't remove any depth from the middle of the neck unless you 100% know exactly how deep the truss rod is. Or r...

Re: Wanted: Tele Pots

Looks like some variant of heat shrink to stop the bare wire touching other lugs. Don't think so. It may well be shrink wrap but it's covering a component. There's several groups of numerals printed on it. One could be 0025, then there's 56 and something unreadable. On the other side it looks like ...

Can someone please tell me what the red thing is and why it's there?
My best guess is it's a capacitor, maybe configured aa some kind of treble bleed.
