They don't really do it for me, too soft on the attack... someone might dig 'em, though. They might sound great on a nylon string.

Groovy! Looks like codedog is our lucky first link.

Hopefully we can keep this rocking... either way, they're out of my hair. :)

Interest in a pay-it-forward pick situation?

I've pretty well settled on my pick of choice, so now I've got a bunch of random picks I've experimented with over the years. Everything from cheapos, to homemade wooden ones, to Stubbies, to Wegens, to nice Dunlops, etc. Is anyone interested in a pay-it-forward arrangement? I'd send you this lot, y...

Re: Fletcher Handcrafted Guitars five-day course

The Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson is also putting together a course for next year... run by the guy from Goldbeard guitars (no experience).

Agreed! So much easier to deal with. Once you start using this trick, you'll never go back to double-sided tape.

Re: Nut slot files - Where from?

I find the Stewmac (both standard and double-sided) ones to be great. Well worth the extra $$ if you are planning to do a few setups. I avoided laying out the cash for years, and I regret waiting. I've tried the cheapo red/blue/yellow ones, and they are JUST TERRIBLE. I've tried the torch tip cleane...

Re: Amp Repair Auckland

Actually come to think of it, I remember him mentioning that he had a few larger projects coming up (which resulted in about a 3 day turnaround for my amp!)... so maybe he's just busy at the moment.

Re: Amp Repair Auckland

I had my amp in to see Clarry just a few months ago (around christmas), so as far as I know he's still in action. He seemed to still be taking things on and made no mention to me about packing it in... but it's not like we're close friends or anything.

Very nice. I've actually been thinking about a Silky Oak (B&S) archtop build, so I'm excited to see how this looks with finish on it.

Re: How to paint Lake Placid Blue with the yellow/green ageing

I'm always supportive of DIY luthiery, but I hope that prospective sprayers are aware of the issues of working with nitro... both in terms of the potential for explodiness while spraying, and the toxicity during the following weeks of curing. That said, I've got yellow, vintage amber, and tobacco br...

Thanks, Sean... yeah, it smells awesome! And I'm guessing that's not going to change anytime soon... years later, the Macro archtop still pumps out beautiful scents (if not tunes) every time I play it.

Yeah, I was very impressed. It does the Fender blackface thing really well. And I'm even more impressed now that I can hear it through a decent quality speaker!

1x12 for the new rig!

I recently acquired a Quilter 101 mini head (thanks, KNNZ!) and an Eminence Lil' Texas neo speaker (thanks, Strummers via Bender!), so the next logical step was to get out the saw and chisels and build a home for the speaker. Some of the dovetails aren't quite up to Bg-level quality, but it didn't t...
