Re: 1959 Les Paul Junior Build

The Workmanship here is absolutely phenomenal Grant. The finish is such high quality, it's mind blowing.

Been after a Lp Jnr for a while and been thinking about doing a build. No where near as technical as this... et hem... bolt on neck. But this is really inspiring to see.

Congrats!

Re: Lots of build questions...

Yes, that trem is a very clever and fussy thing. It should come with a special spring cover (made of metal, and a cam fitting that goes in it). When the trem arm swings up, it pushes a piston downwards that is caught by the cam, and the trem becomes immobile. I have one, they did not make many as t...

Re: Lots of build questions...

Wow, that trem is a rare thing...it is one of the locking Wilkinson ones--it locks when you move the arm. That arrangement above makes no sense--apart from the lateral movement problem, the trem is designed to pivot on the fine edges cut into the two recesses at each end, not the middle. You can bu...

Re: Lots of build questions...

Yes and no, lots of early strats were fitted with floyds back in the 80's. Actual fitting of a bridge is a minor job - not a bodge job. Its a partscaster, plug and redrill. I'd go 2 point everytime over 6 screws, if you were ever going to use it. However the knife edges on that bridge look pretty h...

Re: Lots of build questions...

I’m more worried about making holes that I can’t reverse. If I just use 6 screws instead of the 2 point like BG’s I don’t have to worry about it?
But... can I do that?

Re: Lots of build questions...

So, I’m probably going to put this bridge in my other strat because of how deep the block is. However, the 6 screw holes are gonna look crap if they’re showing. Pictures below for reference. Correct me if I’m wrong, but going off the install instructions, this bridge can be installed with 6 screws i...

Re: Lots of build questions...

bugger thats different to the two post wilkinsons I've used before... You might be able to hacksaw some of the top of the block where it attaches to the bridge. How much do you need to take off? You might need to chop the screws the same amount Unsure how much. Maybe 10mm at most. Would you not rec...

Re: Lots of build questions...

Leave it off if it doesn't stick out, thats going to be the easiest solution. I doubt it'll matter, try it nothing to lose! 10mm is a load to take off the block though, I wouldn't think about that. Think I've done about 5mm in the past. It’s going to stick out. Probably about 3-5mm? I’m just worrie...
