Re: Gear Quests!

I’m still holding out hope for all this talk about big tube amps being obsolete and worthless shortly! Current prices don’t seem to match the online predictions chatter though! I dunno, Vox amps look to be largely unsellable these days. I would agree large combos don’t have much appeal, but 100watt...

Re: Gear Quests!

One of my favourite purchases was my 2550 Marshall head. I was in Nelson for New years eve around 2003, popped into Cash Converters and they had a Marshall 2550 head and JCM800 4x12 for $1000, offered them $900 for the head and cab, then had to figure out how to fit it in the boot of my 1986 Honda ...

Re: Live & Incubus

I went in CHCH, it was a good night out! I was impressed with the subtle but tight playing of the Live lead player, his tone was great too! Could have been the venue but the Incubus guitarists tone was piecing at times and I didn’t love it, great sets from both though. Live was better than I anticip...

Re: Mr Glyn cool 90 demo

For what’s its worth Glyn was very happy with the clip and it’s now on his website. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to demo some more of his pickups. I genuinely think he makes a great product. The p90 now makes that LP a very pleasant guitar for me. Everyone plays different so it’s likely a good idea ...

Re: Mr Glyn cool 90 demo

Great video! I think it shows the pickup well. I would agree chords are helpful when trying to actually get a gauge on how it sounds, everyone plucks the strings slightly differently but chords seem to even the playing field somewhat.although I’m a hypocrite and don’t always follow my own advise. Ch...

Re: NGD: 1981 Ibanez BL300nt Blazer

So this just happened... Trying to stay away from stuff like this but .... it cost me about as much as a box of Heiniken, I had to. 1981 Ibanez Blazer in natural Ash. Fretboard is pretty clean for a maple of this Era and the paint job comes free   It's been a while between Roadstar / ...

Re: Gretsch content

Really cool! I’m trying to do a demo for Glynns pickups. The black thing is an iPhone trick huh ? It’s one key light pointed at me and setting the exposure so there’s virtually no ambient light in in the exposure. You might be able to do a similar thing on an iPhone but I haven’t tried. Think there...

Video of the Gretsch.
That's a pretty professional looking video Reg. Well done!
Cheers, I hope the other 37 people that usually watch my videos think so too!

Excuse my ignorance, but what’s Cadenza? Is this an Auckland guitar store?

Re: Compressor and Overdrive in one box?

Don’t have any experience with how they sound but I’d imagine lots of the cheap brands will have something, like this Nux one here with a boost but still in the ball park. https://www.musicplanet.co.nz/nux-nbk-5-masamume-booster-compressor-nux-nbk-5?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjJvAy8qLhQMV2sg...

Re: Gretsch content

I'd be inclined to ignore the name on the headstock and just look at it as a generic guitar. Because given its origins, it might appear under several brands. Now this isn't a bad thing; the Koreans and Taiwanese can make some fine instruments and it should be judged on its merits. Just don't go thi...

Gretsch content

Borrowing this guitar off my brother in law, I didn’t know much about this series. Seems as though it was made in the Peerless Korean factory prior to electronatic series being around. Seems very well built to me, nice guitar with Dearmond pickups. Anyone know much about these? It wasn’t a known mod...
