Re: Bay City Music Closing Down
Have to agree about RS service, with the caveat that in-shop assistance can be hit or miss. I’ve enquired about two guitars that they moved around the country for me to try, faster than they promised. Both resulted in sales. I do find the lack of a demo room at the Hamilton shop a turn off. I visit...

Re: Band dynamics
Lots of interesting anecdotes here. It’s 20 years since I played live in Auckland, but I remember Dogs Bollyx when it was Boardwalk. Always found the mix upstairs at the Gluepot OK in front but awful onstage monitoring. The guy who did FOH at Pod and that place upstairs on Symonds Street was always ...

Yes, well-spotted. Service was friendly, but processes precluded a significant sale.

Re: Top 5 electric guitars
Strat with modified pickup combinations, tone on the bridge pickup
LP type with vintage output HBs
335
Hollow body Gretsch
A single P90 junior type
Now, of course, this kind of selection does open up the 6L6/EL84/EL34/6V6 question of what 3 amps do you need to realise those guitar tones...

Re: Rickenbacker chat
Play a Danelectro 59 beforehand and it all seems to make more sense. At least that was my most recent experience. Still, prices being what they are, its perhaps too far away from the familiar comfort zone to spend that amount on for a “new sound palette”. Then again, watching CCR videos always gets ...

Re: Bay City Music Closing Down
A shame to see another Mum and Dad store going under. Completely agree with you, and as a former shop owner I know exactly how tough it is to compete with online and all of the other external sources. Welcome to the foum btw  Thanks. I’ve been around but not posting. My recent experience h...

Re: Bay City Music Closing Down
I visited on Saturday for the first time in a few years. Was a regular customer of Stu’s when he had Weirs in Hamilton. I didn’t notice the closing down sign on the window so I was shocked at the lack of stock when I walked in. As I was walking out the woman on the counter (Nicola?) told me everythi...

Reboxed 72 Fender Twin Reverb.
Well I’ve had it forever, so I guess I’ll be keeping it forever.

Re: 'Bonding' with guitars
I often work up a whole bond with guitars that I'm GASsing after by looking through the shop window, searching the web, displaying on my desktop, calculating the repayments, etc... but picking up and playing what I actually own tends to blow that all away and remind me "a bird in the hand...&qu...
