Re: What's on your work bench?

This needs a full overhaul to bring it back to its former glory (if there ever was any). It is a No. 4. BG no longer wants it, anyone? shipping costs are yours 20240527_161239.jpg Did anyone grab this? I've put some time into a couple of really bad resto planes, would be happy to have a crack at th...

Re: Old strings

Some pricing context when this model sold in Germany in 1979 In 1979 one USD equated 1.8340 German marks. (https://www.measuringworth.com/datasets/exchangeglobal/result.php?year_source=1900&year_result=2000&countryE%5B%5D=Germany) In 1979 the 2618 was priced at DM1195 (below) which equated t...

9 years ago. Shitting hell. Accelerating towards oblivion we are.
I wonder how many guitars attending that day haven't had their strings changed since.

Another Ibanez man. I agree with the model designation but the year is 1977 :D
Probably will sound wonderful on your full stack!

Re: Old strings

So nice Jay. That's an earlier version of the Artist double-cut guitar, right? Which pickups? The Super-70s or something else? The black looks classy. I mentioned it in my first impressions  It is a Super80 also known as the Flying Fingers pickup. See photo below. And you are welcome to try o...

Re: Old strings

First impressions: Happy to have bought it, was in two minds as I normally don't like black guitars. This one is growing on me though but I would have preferred the Antique Violin burst. Might have to strip this one  Forty year old strings hurt ones fingers tips. Black seems to attract dust l...

I measured my one on my 5kg rated kitchen scale and it clocks in at 4368 grams. About the same as my Gibson LP

Re: Old strings

So intrigued I googled 2681. Ibanez Wiki says 2681 Bob Weir model has an vine inlay up the neck. 2680 has dot inlays. Potentially contradicting what’s been revealed so far. Even More intrigued now! You could be right, I thought the vine inlay came later, or was an option? Jay will know. :-) This ph...

Re: What's on your work bench?

1000034170.jpg Also made this. An idea I've had for a while based on internet hokum from years ago where you'd get 2 humbuckers and take one coil from each and swap them over, so you'd have 1 coil from a JB and one from say a 59 in the same pickup. So here we have one coil with 43 awg to 8.2k (6666...

Re: Old strings

Being serious, the side of the binding looks too well executed to be Gibson. But, the fret profile (as murky described) is quite Gibson, as are the nibs. Side dots are small...not a Gibson norm, more Asian. Are those fancy inlays replacements? One looks like it has had a repair around it. Common th...

Re: Old strings

you looking at the nibs? I thought he was having me on cause the Supreme doesn't have dot inlays and is at least two decades too young to wear four decades old strings :D yeah, I expect he was. But the nibs are confusing me...that rules out a lot of guitars. For a man with such refined taste and br...

And school bus frets.

Have you checked the control cavity for a bag of coke?
I think I was the first one to check that cavity after it was made. I blew some dust out of it but didn't think to sniff it up.
